Eric Gunnar Gisse Charged For Installing Backdoors on Over 2,700 Servers

Eric Gunnar Gisse , 29 of San Antonio, Texas has been arrested for breaching computer syystem , and installing backdoors in 2,723 computers of the world's renowned web hosting company Hostgator  .

According to court documents obtained by Ars Technica, Gisse worked for the company as a medium-level administrator between September 2011 and February 2012.


After he was terminated from the job, the company discovered a malicious application that allowed Eric to control the server remotely . It took this long for the company to notice the malware because it was disguised in a popular app of Unix.

Eric apparently utilized a Hostgator digital SSH key to gain root access to the systems. Company officials say that there are no evidence of weather customer's personal information is effected .

Eric is currently being held at the Harris County Jail on $20,000 (15,000 EUR) bond.
